My name is Eli, and I’m currently a senior at Carmel High School (soon to attend Ball State University in the fall). I’m very passionate about mental health awareness and education because it’s something that is so close to home. I've struggled with mental health, sexuality and gender identity throughout high school, but found it helpful that there was an entire community of people who were going through the same thing I was. In February of 2017 I came out to my friends and family as transgender (female to male). I decided to create a YouTube video to explain what it meant for me to be openly trans. Because of the tremendous support I received when I came out, I wanted to give back to the community and help other people who may be questioning their identity as well.
I believe that someone’s value isn’t determined by ‘how much you change the world,’ but rather by how much you change the world for the people around you. I was just a kid with a camera. Anyone can give back to the people around them by doing things that benefit the lives of others. Through TeenzTalk I hope to inspire and help other people who identify with the LGBTQ+ community.
