"Often the silent ones are the ones with the greatest stories." As an introvert and first generation high school student from Tanzania (East Africa), I have often struggled with ‘actively’ voicing my views. As a result, I sometimes feel left out in society almost as though being shy automatically makes one a ‘misfit’ in this loud world. This very feeling, prompted me to work with marginalized groups in Tanzania -- from advocating for refugee rights with UNHCR, teaching various skills to mentally disabled children, arranging surprise birthday parties for street children, to collaborating with StandingVoice and the UN independent expert on albinism to host a forum that aimed to address the mystification of albinism in Tanzania.
I think everyone has something mesmerizingly unique to contribute to this world and sometimes they just need someone to believe in them. That is why I do what I do, I voice my belief in such groups and the outcomes are definitely worthwhile. In my opinion, TeenzTalk is one of the most inspirational platforms to share our thoughts, amplify our voice, and begin to spark positive change. |
