Ruby Spies

Youth Speaker & Panelist at the 2017 Teen Wellness Conference

BIO
Pronouns: she, her, hers

Ruby Spies is a 17 year old queer gal with mental illnesses from the East Bay. She has written a column for her school paper about a variety of topics related to mental health, has led a support group for other queer youth, and is working on developing a mental health peer education program at her school. She has lots of feelings about the difficulty of navigating the mental health system while queer. She will be speaking about these feelings, in addition to ableist language, the pressure to be high-functioning, and her experiences with severe depression, anxiety, harmful coping, medication, hospitalization, recovery, and being mentally ill in the school system.
